More wisdom for 2025: Joel “When does the fire fall?”
The Word of the Lord: Joel 2:1, 12-17
THERE IS THE SOBER CONDEMNATION OF INDIFFERENCE.
2 Thessalonians 2:3
“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;”
Revelation 3:19, “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”
Israel had become lukewarm and indifferent to the things of God, and here God judges them by sending a swarm of locusts against them (Joel 1:3-6).
1 Peter 4:17 “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?”
THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT COMMANDS GIVEN.
Psalm 34:18, “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saves such as be of a contrite spirit.”
THERE IS SPECIAL COMFORT GIVEN
First, God invites us to see His Nature.
Joel 2:13 “And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.”
Next, God invites us to see His Nurture.
Isaiah 24:11 “There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened; the mirth of the land is gone.”
Finally, God invites us to see His Nearness.
