More Wisdom for 2025 from the Prophets: Jonah
The Word of the Lord: Jonah 1:1-17
“That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man” (Matthew 24:37-39).
And God said to them, “I hate, I despise your religious feasts; I cannot stand your assemblies. Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them. Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps” (Amos 5:21-23).
Sometimes people who are supposed to be God’s people are not really living for God, and people who seem far from God are looking for God.
And God said to Jonah, “Do you have a right to be angry about the vine?” Jonah said, “I do. I am angry enough to die” (Jonah 4:9).
Everyone and everything are doing what God wants except Israel and Jonah. Even the worm follows God’s orders! But Jonah can only think of himself.
Jesus is calling us to put aside our reluctance and be a part of the rescue effort to save a lost and dying world.
