Excavate – Acts 8


Acts 8:1, “On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.”

Acts 8:14, “ When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria.”

The Word of the Lord: Acts 8:26-35

In Acts 8:36-39, “As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” [And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.

The 12th Article of Faith of the Church of the Nazarene
“We believe that Christian baptism, commanded by our Lord, is a sacrament signifying acceptance of the benefits of the atonement and incorporation into the body of Christ.
Baptisms is a means of grace proclaiming faith in Jesus Christ as Savior. It is to be administered to believers’ indication their full purpose of obedience in holiness and righteousness.

As participants in the new covenant, young children and the morally innocent may be baptized upon the requests of parents or guardians. The church shall give assurance of Christian training. Baptism may be administered by sprinkling, pouring, or immersion.

What Does this Mean?
  • Baptism is an outward sign of an inward grace.
 
  • Baptism is not required for a person to go to heaven.
