Excavate- Acts 23

Help me with these lines: (congregation read the bold)

“If you were a king, you wouldn’t be afraid of anything?”
“Not nobody, not no-how!”

“Not even a rhinoceros?”
“Imposerous!”

“How about a hippopotamus?”
“Why, I’d trash him from top to bottomus!”

“Supposing you met an elephant?”
“I’d wrap him up in cellophant!”

“What if he were a brontosaurus?”
“I’d show him who was king of the forests!”

Acts 4:13.“When they saw the courage of Peter and John, they saw that they were unschooled, ordinary men.” They noted that they had been with Jesus.”

•   What happens in chapter 23 is the same. They needed courage in the face of adversity.

The Word of the Lord: Acts 23:11, “The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.”

We see courage in Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

•   So, God is with us.

2 Timothy says that God did not give us a spirit not to be afraid but the power of love and self-control.

•.  So, God is in us.

In Deut. 31, Joshua says, be strong and courageous; do not fear for it is the Lord God who goes before you.

So, God goes before us.

God gives us the courage to do what he calls us to do.

Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord in all of your ways and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

A Prayer of Courage
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your promise to be with me wherever I go. When I am tempted to doubt and fear, help me remember that You are with me.    In light of this promise, may I be strong and courageous no matter what I face!
In Jesus name, Amen.
