Excavate: Acts 2 – Part 2

The Word of the Lord: Acts 2:41-47,
41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common.

45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
In verse 41, those who accepted the message were baptized. Now, realize not everyone responded to the Gospel.

  • What we call that is being born again (regeneration). Your heart is literally changed when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

  • We have a desire to be pleasing to God.

Ephesians 2:1-5,
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.

3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

Christianity is an individual matter. It is you and Jesus.
And as soon as you make that decision, it becomes a community matter.
We're adopted into the family of God.
