Excavate – Acts 5
The Word of the Lord: Acts 5:12-16
In the early days of the church, the people had this holy fear of God that surrounded them, that was a part of their everyday lives.
Proverbs 9:10, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”
“The fear of God...” the continual awareness that our lovingly heavenly Father is watching and evaluating everything we think, say, and do.”
Matthew 12:36, “But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.”
Proverbs 14:27, “the fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to turn away from the snares of death.”
Isaiah 6:5, “Woe to me! I cried. I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”
James 5:13-16, “ Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.
Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

Matthew 12:36, “But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.”
- There is a difference between the fear of God and being scared of God.
- The early church followed in holy fear. They did not give God their leftovers.
