 Breadcrumbs: Discernment – Habakkuk 1:2-4

Habakkuk gives his First Complaint
  • Life in Israel is horrible.
  • There is violence and injustice everywhere.
  • Corrupt elected leaders are making it even worse.

God Responds to this First Complaint
1:5 “Look at the nations and watch— and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.

And God Responds…
2:2-4, Then the Lord replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false.
Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay. “See, the enemy is puffed up; his desires are not upright—but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness."

God Continues in Chapter 2 Giving Several Woes or Questions:
  • Woe to those with unjust practices.
  • Woe to those who promote slave labor.
  • Woe to irresponsible leaders.
  • Woe to those who serve idols.
Habakkuk’s Declaring Statement at the end of chapter 3:17-19
is a Statement of Faith!

  • Even though things do not look good on the outside, I am going to trust in God.
We hear the basic tenants of our Christianity.
“The righteous will live by faith”

The Goal is to Keep our Eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
