 Breadcrumbs: Adages – Proverbs 1-15

Adages: a proverb or short statement expressing a general truth.

1st Kings 4:32, “He spoke three thousand proverbs and his songs numbered a thousand and five.”
Proverbs are short practical sayings…

  • Our culture teaches us to live and to learn but the Biblical Proverbs teach us to learn so that we can live.

  • Solomon is writing to his son this message: Live your life in a way that is pleasing to God…

The Word of the Lord: Proverbs 1:1-7

  • The book of Proverbs is about: Grace for sinners, Hope for failures and wisdom for dummies.

  • David Taught his son the ways of God. We need mature fathers and mothers and grandparents and adopted parents who will be mature and honest with those that God has given us to lead.

  • Remember who you and act accordingly.

  • Our life should be a testimony of the Holy Spirit Standing with Us!

Proverbs 1:1-7 from the Message
“These are the wise sayings of Solomon,
David’s son, Israel’s king—
Written down so we’ll know how to live well and right,
to understand what life means and where it’s going;
A manual for living,
for learning what’s right and just and fair;
To teach the inexperienced the ropes
and give our young people a grasp on reality.
There’s something here also for seasoned men and women,
still a thing or two for the experienced to learn—
Fresh wisdom to probe and penetrate,
the rhymes and reasons of wise men and women.
 Start with God—the first step in learning is bowing down to God;
only fools thumb their noses at such wisdom and learning.”
