Delve Deeper – Luke 14

Passage 1: Vs. 1-6:

Passage 2: Vs. 7-11:

14:11, “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Passage 3: Vs. 12-14:

  • “Don’t just invite people who can pay you back.
Instead, invite the poor, crippled, blind, lame.”

Passage 4: Vs. 15-24: A parable about the Prepared Banquet

Passage 5: Vs. 25-33 The cost of being a Disciple

Two Illustrations:
  • Man Building a Tower
  • A King Going Out to War

  • Again, there is a need to count the cost before following Jesus.

Passage 6: Vs. 34-35 Salt that Does Not Have Taste Isn’t Good For Anything

You see, that's the key. The key needs to count the cost.
The key is counting the price if we try to do it on our own if we don't surrender to Jesus, and if we don't leap by faith day after day.

  • The cost of following Jesus is the same. Just follow Him daily.

Ephesians 4: 11-15, “So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.15 Instead of speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”
